Our destiny is to know the Creator of all. Let's be aware that He is the cause of all we are, have and do. This in spite of the egocentric belief that we are the sole owners of what we presume we are, what we believe we have, and what we think we do. As a matter of fact, knowledge gives us the strength and power to think, feel and do regarding our circumstances and surroundings. The issue to consider here is what kind of knowledge leads us to presume and act accordingly. There is a knowledge that integrates, unites and uplifts all aspects of our consciousness and, as we experience it, we also reflect it in our surroundings and our relationship with others. Also, there is a knowledge that separates, divides and subjugates our consciousness to think, feel and act according to its pattern. Hence, we have to pursue the former and reject the latter. The former is the knowledge of the Creator. This is the knowledge that speaks through us, guides us and rectifies beliefs that divide, feelings that separate, emotions that subjugate, passions that oppress, and instincts that destroy.
"I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will look out to see what He will speak by me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved." (Habakkuk 2:1)
The Prophet invites us to be constantly vigilant of our thoughts, emotions, feelings, passions and instincts. This "watch" is set upon a "tower" that symbolizes the altitude we must have to connect and bond with the Creator, for in this bond He speaks by us. In our constant connection with Him, through our knowledge of Him, He guides our discernment. He inspires us to recognize our transgressions and rectify them through His ways and attributes. In this knowledge and awareness we realize that goodness, as well as the remaining ways and means of Love, are the righteous attributes we choose to live for. These are the qualities we owe faithfulness as the faith for which we live.
"(...) but the righteous shall live by his faith." (2:4)
The opposite of these ways, means, attributes and qualities, are ego's fantasies and illusions that betray the knowledge of our Essence and true identity. A false belief can lead us to false thoughts, emotions, feelings and passions. This predicament gets worse when ego's separatist agenda imposes its desires. This shows up in our pride and haughtiness, which our Sages consider the worst forms of idolatry along with wrath. In our pride we become angry and reject what comes against our false or negative beliefs. In this predicament we are truly dead because anything coming out of an egotistic approach to life denies the unity and upliftment of Love's ways and attributes. Ego's fantasies and desires are gathered around the negative tendencies of consciousness, represented by the "nations" and "peoples".
"Indeed, wine is a treacherous dealer, the haughty man does not abide; he who enlarges his desire as the nether-world, and is as death, and can't be satisfied, but gathers unto him all nations and heaps unto him all peoples." (2:5)
Our fall begins when we submit all aspects and dimensions of consciousness to ego's fantasies and illusions. This takes place when we feed false beliefs that turn into obsessions, habits, attachments and additions; what the Prophet calls here a city built upon iniquity.
"Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity!" (2:12)
The antidote against falling into ego's fantasies and illusions is the knowledge of the Creator. This is the fire that transforms and elevates our consciousness to connect with God. This is our labor as the task and duty we must pursue as our destiny. This is the beginning to enter the Messianic Consciousness, opposite to vanity and futility of ego's fantasies and illusions along with negative trends in our consciousness.
"Behold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?" (2:13) "What profits the graven image, that the maker thereof has graven it, even the molten image, and the teacher of lies; that the maker of his work trusts therein, to make dumb idols?" (2:18)
We enter the Messianic Consciousness when we begin to know and live in God's ways and attributes. This is the fulfillment of our destiny. We have to reiterate once again that the Glory of God is God's Love. We already know that "the Earth is full of His Glory", and it depends on us to fully realize this as the culmination of our Final Redemption.
"For the Earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." (2:14)
Our Creator wants us to know Him. That's why He gave us His Torah. Hence we must open our hearts to His Love, from which all came to exist. As we allow Love's ways and attributes to guide and direct all aspects of our consciousness, God's Love leads us to His knowledge. In our separation, under the pride and haughtiness of our wrath, we ask Him to redeem us in His compassion, grace and loving kindness.
"O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember compassion." (3:2)
As we return to the permanent connection and bond with our Creator, and enter the Messianic Consciousness as the Final Redemption, we will rejoice forever as we walk with Him in the highest level of our awareness of being truly alive.
"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will exult in the God of my Redemption. God, the Lord, is my strength and He makes my feet like hinds' feet, and He makes me to walk upon my high places." (3:18-19)
